About A Forest Tail

A Forest Tail will be an adventure filled with romance. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, so I will keep this vague. You'll be looking for someone that may or may not exist. Along your adventures you'll meet romanceable girls with unique characteristics along with very unique scenes. Getting to know them and completing their quests along with satisfying their needs later will be a great focus of your life in A Forest Tail.

Questions / Answers

Q: What was your inspiration to make a game?
A: I made some art recently of a mimic girl with her chest exposed and added a dungeon-like HUD to it. It got a lot of attention and I was asked if it was from a game. The person asked further if I would be willing to make a game with similar elements. That's really what kicked it all off!

Q: How do I support you?
A:  You can subscribe to me on Patreon! You can also tell your friends about this A Forest Tail. More players means more fixes, ideas and content!!

Q: How many f#ckable girls will be in this game?
A: I can't say without spoiling anything, but at least 3 so far. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself or rush the person helping me either. We are taking a steady approach to this.

Q: Do you take commissions?
A: Yes! Currently I am limiting commissions to Patreons only so I can prevent from being too distracted from making A Forest Tail.

Q: How much will it cost on release?
A: That has not been determined. The demo releases will all be free! I need advice on how it's playing! <3

Q: Will characters be unique or just reskinned outlines throughout the game?
A: All characters will be unique in every way. I want to make every location and experience feel fresh and new.

Q: Is this going to be like every other hentai game where you just get lewd dialogue and horny guys?
A: No! You will be playing for the story! Characters will not just be a bunch or horny teen angst!! They will all have unique personalities that will influence with your actions and responses in dialogue! Their dialogue when alone will be more or less lewd depending on the character. Some are obviously going to be more shy and vice versa.

Q: Will there be males characters to romance?
A: I haven't decided that just yet since my following has come from my female designs. I DO want to add some herm girls and cute femboy traps in, though. If those supporting me say they want male romanceables, then I will gladly add that in <3

Q: Can you add me to your game?
A: Those with long term or high support levels will have a lot more weight to their requests. If you have been a great part of funding this game, I will happily add you into A Forest Tail depending on the progress. If it's rather deep into the game, I may only be able to add you as a cameo or reference to you. My main focus is to make sure the story and character flow seamlessly!

Q: How many people are working on this?
A: Two (2). I am the artists and Amnesia is the coder. He's asked to be kept mostly to the side as not to be bothered while he's working so I won't mention him often. In case he reads this: I really appreciate you doing this <3

Any update? it feels like it's abandoned.

So far I'm not sure if theres much to comment on considering I just kinda wandered around the map and couldnt interract with much it seemed. However I think the art style is charming and I think the main character's design is adorable. Good luck with this project, I will be checking up on it again soon!!

Thank you!! I wish I had more to show for! It's a slow project since there's just two of us working on it and only one of us knows how to code things. I will at least put out some kind of update once a week! Promise!

since the only part of this that matter are the graphics, I'll only comment on those. the map is nice enough, seems to follow the "three tile rule" or at least it doesn't seem overly repetitive. UI will obviously change late in development as per usual dev cycles so it's okay for now. but i believe there is an option to disable parts of the UI you're not going to use in RPG Maker, though it's been years since i've looked at the program. if you're not gonna have stuff like magic/skills then you should turn that menu off for instance, something to think about.

biggest bit of feedback is that the player sprite does not look like it belongs in the world. besides having crushed pixels itself, its own pixels are waaaaay smaller than the ones in the world. make it consistent one way or another (either resizing the world or resizing the player) and you'll have a much better looking game.

i'll keep an eye on this

These are really important points!

The UI is most certainly going to be leaving. It's what we are working on right now, but it's a doozy of a workload! The big goal is make this into a game that doesn't just bleed "MADE IN RPG MAKER" like most games of a similar style. At the same time, we have such a story to tell with this! The menu is very likely going to be simplified to basics like inventory, map and options.

The sprite does seem a bit out of place. I could never really tell why, but that makes it clear. I'm not sure if I should use a more detailed tileset or if I should change the sprite to be more fitting to the world it's in. The portraits are the main focus, so maybe having a more simplistic sprite would balance it out a lot better.

if you really want to get into pixel art things, you should look at the difference between 8-bit graphics and 16-bit graphics. right now your tileset is 8-bit, quite reminiscent of some of the older pokemon games for instance. some artists prefer a 16-bit aesthetic like the JRPGs on the SNES--that one typically requires a lot of work to get it to look great, since you can't have empty swaths of a color like you have right now for instance.

it's your game so do what you like, but imo you should keep the 8-bit graphics for the overworld and make 8-bit sprites for the characters and items and things to match it. it's much less work and less frustrating for a first time game dev

of course you don't have to do actual 8-bit palettes and whatnot. just use the style. unless again you wanna get really into the nitty gritty of the pixel art. up to you

I think you have a good point. It would be a lot less work which would let me focus more on the bigger picture of it all.  I'll make sure to keep this in mind with the next update!

This looks really promising ;> winkwonk

not ran it yet but the store page don't tell much about the game itself. what kinda gameplay should i expect? when i hear adventure i either think of zelda or something along the line of the dizzy series... from the screenshots im guessing zelda... or pokemon somehow. romance... well im one of the last people you should ask on that front but what would players expect out of that. will it be a dialoge tree or something more in-depth like a mini-game or fetchquest. will suceeding in romance have in game effects like a traviling companion that offers buffs or other enhancements to the adventure side of things?

Thank you for all the questions!! I'd be glad to get some advice on directions as well <3
As for gameplay, I want this to be a long story-rich game about leaving your home town to find someone you lost. Over that time  you'll encounter many fetch quests and possible battle enemies. I'm not completely sure if a battle system will fit here since I only know how to really make this into a turn based combat system. There will be an extensive amount of dialogue, but nothing filler to just waste time. Everything will come full circle and decisions will have greater and greater impacts the further you go.
Stardew Valley and Zelda were big influences on my interest in making a game.

As for romance, this will be all on the foundation of my own art which is NSFW. There will be plenty of girls along the way to build relationships with and ultimately bring along in your quest. I'd like to add buffs for each companion to bring, yes, but depending on the time frame of how fast this project is progressing, I may not go that in depth to begin with. I don't want to get too ambitious and end up with a a game that just has pieces of potential all over the place.

There will be cutscenes between characters for sure and mini-games are on the board of potentials. Mini games are low on the priority. Depending on how well this little demo and my art are received will decide how far I can go before I'll be out of funding. Funding will mostly go to developers for their help since I know very little about coding. I have an amazing dev working with me as of now. We've been close for a long time, so I know I can trust them not to drop this.
